How to change a light bulb of an Authentic Turkish Lamp

All our Turkish lamp components comply with Australian standards and approved by Fair Trading NSW (Licence Number NSW27284) Therefore, the light bulbs sockets are designed for Australia so, the globes may be found at any major department stores including Bunnings Warehouse, Big W, Kmart, Woolworths, Coles, etc.

All our lamps come with a light bulb replacement instruction when purchased and changing a light bulb of a Turkish Lamp is as easy as home maintenance and DIY gets. But, for those of you who do not have the instruction and are unsure how to go about it, we’ve got you covered.

Please note that Turkish Lamps purchased from overseas and Chinese imitation Turkish lamps may not comply with Australian component standards. Therefore, the light bulb sockets may not be the same.

What you need to do

1-) Turn off the power

First, make sure the power is turned off. The safest way to do this is to unplug the lamp from the wall socket.

2-) Remove the bulb and the lid

Hold the glass shade steady and pull the lid down or up (do not twist the metal part ) ( see diagrams for your type of lamp base ) and hold the metal springs to remove it. To take the bulb out of the socket, keep gently twisting anticlockwise until the bulb comes loose from the socket.

3-) Replace the bulb

Insert a replacement bulb in the socket ( Use E-14 type of light bulb ) and keep gently twisting clockwise until it won’t go any further. Make sure that the light bulb is working if you are using an existing one.

4-) Place the lid back

Once the bulb is in, place the lid back into the glass shade by pressing the metal springs.

5-) Restore power

Make sure that everything is done safely. Plug the cord back into the wall socket again and switch on the light.

As always, safety is crucial when working with electrical or wiring faults.

Remember:

  • Check the wattage on the used bulb and replace it with a bulb of the same wattage

  • Dispose of the bulb well out of the reach of children

  • Don’t put your fingers in the exposed light socket
